It would seem from your experiences though that they are not since you have had such different results before and after the logic board replacement. It would seem ill-advised, but I honestly don't know the design specifics. With Intel and Apple both being aware that there was a potential that a small number of CPU's could be affected by the problem you would hope they would not tie the fans to the Processor Digital Thermal Sensor. I wonder if AE16: Use of memory aliasing with inconsistent memory type may cause system hang could be causing some of the issues with random shutdowns some folks are experiencing with 3rd party RAM. There is actually quite a laundry list of 34 problems. It is in the April 2006 eratta, but I had seen reports of the problem circulating before that. Intel has been aware of it for some time now. Increw has posted it as if it was recent news, its not. This issue with the Core Duo is not a new one. What you are saying would not surprise me. So it is my guess that the fans determine their output via an external temperature probe. My conclusion is, there was something funky going on between the external temp sensors and my fans, and that the logic board replacement fixed that. AND i can hear my fans working when both cores are at maximum output. Now when my CPU never hits above 80deg cel. Now, i recently sent my MBP in due to this very heat issue and the service center replaced my logic board. sensor, they should have kicked in.) however, during the SMC update, i can definitely hear the fans work, so it rules out the possibility that the fans are spoilt. (if the fans determined their output via the CPU's internal temp. The primary purpose of this sensor is to shut down or slow down the CPU if it is in. at this temperature, the fans do NOT kick in at all. CoreDuoTemp (1.0) is a menu bar application that reads the temperature from the Intel CPU's built-in sensor. so in order to sidestep this issue, apple designed the fans to kick in based on outputs from other external sensors (the one placed on the heatsink perhaps?) I think that the fans use another sensor to determine their status, as opposed to tapping the sensor from within the CPU.ฤก) im guessing intel has notified apple of the flaw even before mbp was in production.
